Description
Dragons are legendary creatures that exist within God's Domain. Back in the Ancient God's era, the Dragon Race was one of the most powerful, with even Gods and Demons being afraid of them.
Among Dragons, there are Dragon Kings. They tend to have superior Bloodlines to ordinary Dragons, and possess the power to contend with Tier 6 Gods, even as a Tier 5 being.[1]
A Dragon's Life Rating is extremely high, and once it reaches adulthood, it automatically advances into a Tier 5.
Any random Adult Dragon would have Tier 5 strength and have the strength of a top-ranked World Boss. They are known as invincible among beings of the same tier. Not even human Heroes, individuals who had received Godsā blessings, were a match for Dragons of the same tier.[2]
TL Notes:
Please regard all instances of "Divine Dragons" in the main story as "Sacred Dragons" from now on. [3]
Dragons' special abilities
Dragons appear to have various peculiar abilities, three of which are the possession of the Dragon's breath, Dragon magic and Draconic spells.
Chapter 2969 : "Dragon Magic was a type of ancient magic that surpassed the magic found in modern Godās Domain. Under the same tier, the power of Dragon Magic far surpassed that of ordinary magic. The cast time was also much shorter. Dragon Magic was one of the reasons that made Dragons invincible among opponents of the same tier."
The only known Dragon Magic so far is a tier 4 large scale destruction spell, Meteor.
Chapter 2322 : "Draconic Spells were some of the most primitive Spells in God's Domain, beginning at Tier 4. Even Dragons rarely possessed Draconic Spells of the same tier. Meanwhile, a Draconic Spell was even more powerful than a large-scale destruction Spell, capable of rivaling the Gods' Divine Arts. A single blow from such a Spell could annihilate tens of thousands of creatures. Not even Invulnerability Spells could stop their devastation."
The only known Draconic Spell so far is the tier 4 Draconic spell, Meteorite Fall.
As of April 12 2022, Draconic Spells and Dragon Magic were merged, in other words they now refer to the same kind of magic.
A Dragon's breath is considered the strongest attack of a Dragon and it usually takes the form of a beam, shotting out of the Dragon's opened jaws. [4]
Ranking
Among Dragons, it is said that those with an higher fraction of the Primal Dragonās Bloodline (a "purer bloodline") are stronger, like Sacred Dragons or Golden Dragons.
As of chapter 2789 : "Not to mention, the Infant Dragon before them was part of the Golden Dragon tribe. Its Bloodline was of a much higher purity than ordinary Dragonsā. Among the Dragon race, the Golden Dragonsā Bloodline was second only to Divine Dragons".
It is also said that Dragon Kings have a much better bloodline compared to that of ordinary dragons ; it's not completely clear whether or not that means that Dragon Kings have a much purer bloodline than ordinary dragons' but probably a "better bloodline" is just a different way to say "purer bloodline" (Or else things will get very complex).
Known Dragons
We don't have a lot of references about dragons but we do have some encounters :
- The Black Dragon King is the one who cursed the Abyssal Blade ;
- An infant Golden Dragon was killed by Shi Feng's Party in the ancient God's Domain ;
- A Silver infant Divine Dragon (Auerbeck) was freed/summoned by Shi Feng ;
- A flock of 5 adult Dragons with a Bronze Dragon as it's leader was summoned by Shi Feng while fighting the Scholar at tier 5 ;
- An adult sealed Bronze Dragon King was encountered by Shi Feng around chapter 2062 during the Ancient God's Maze (Asura Mode) ;
- 3 Infant Black Dragons were encountered by Shi Feng during his promotion to tier 4 ;
- the phantom of a very big dragon talked to Shi Feng during the Divine Dragon's trial (Around Chapter 2850) ;
- A tier 5, level 220 extremely weakened Silver Dragon, chapter 869 ;
- A tier 4 dead bronze dragon (Schwartold) as the boss of an hell mode dungeon in chapter 2968.
A lot of things, from money to battle techniques, in God's Domain are divided into 3 categories : Bronze, Silver and Gold.
Dragons also appear to be divided into those three ranks, however that's not the only feature differentiating between dragons, as of now we know that there are also black dragons, divine dragons and dragon kings.
We don't know much about black dragons and the only thing we can be pretty sure about them is that they are black. Since the "black" attribute doesn't really fit into any existing category and doesn't have an explanation in the novel it probably isn't related to the strength of the dragon, maybe it's just a popular clan of dragons.
We know about the existence of Bronze, Silver and Golden dragons, we know that Golden Dragons are the strongest except for Dragon Kings and Divine Dragons and we can assume that bronze dragons are stronger than ordinary ones (because during the fight against the Scholar the bronze Dragon was the last one to die, other than behaving luke the leader of the flock).
We also know about the existence of Bronze Dragon Kings and Silver Divine Dragons.
We can thus assume the existence of Bronze Divine Dragons (Stronger than ordinary Divine Dragons but weaker than the Silver ones), Golden Divine Dragons (the strongest kind of Divine Dragons), Silver Dragon Kings (Stronger than... and so on) and Golden Dragon Kings.
But what is the relationship between Divine Dragons and Dragon Kings?
They both are capable of fighting against opponents of an higher tier, they both can be divided into three groups of power, they both have a bloodline stronger than ordinary dragons and they both are highly regarded by other dragons and other races.
The only Dragon Kings Shi Feng encounters are either dead or very old, sealed somewhere in an alternate dimension, the Divine Dragon Auerbeck is however just an infant.
It is henceforth possible to assume that there's no such thing as an "infant Dragon King", after all it doesn't even make a lot of sense for someone to be at the same time an infant and a king, at most it would be called a Prince but apparently Princes don't exist in the Dragons' race.
Using all of those informations on dragons, several hypothesis about the concepts of Divine Dragons and Dragon Kings can be done :
1) Dragon Kings are just the grown up (Tier 5) version of Divine Dragons
2) Dragon Kings are very strong dragons with a special bloodline, something different than just an higher fraction of the Primeval bloodline 3) Dragon Kings are the next step after Divine Dragons regarding power and the purity of the bloodline
4) Dragon Kings are grown Divine Dragons with special abilities or with particular affinity with mana or combat techniques or maybe the mastering of a world law, like human saints.
5) Dragon Kings are the strongest dragon of a certain "Dragon Clan" (It's not even confirmed whether or not something like a Dragon Clan actually exists but it can't be ruled out)
6) Dragon Kings are Divine Dragons who managed during their lifetime to influence the Dragon race and/or gain an high social status among the Dragon race and/or gain an high amount of followers/influence.
7) Dragon Kings are, whatever is the reason, the strongest dragons of the world at a certain time (like top 3 strongest dragons during the 5th millennium of God's Domain's History)
8) Dragon Kings are the "Kings" of a certain Kind of dragon (Bronze Dragon King = Strongest Bronze Dragon)
Let's try to analyse the various hypothesis :
1) Possible, but maybe too simple
2) Possible, however it would make things complicated for no apparent reason, it's way more straightforward to just say "Dragons are differentiated based on their fraction of Dragon Primeval Bloodline : More Primeval Bloodline = Stronger Dragon"
3) Could be possible, however that would make Dragon Kings way too overpowered, since Divine Dragons are already capable of transcending tiers and going up against gods even as tier 5 beings. Also, the difference between the strongest possible adult dragon and an ordinary adult dragon will become enormous as well.
4) Could be possible
5) Could be possible but that would also factor in the existence of a Dragon King weaker than a Divine Dragon, also it was never mentioned something like Dragon Clans.
6) Could also be possible
7) This one is not impossible but it feels too arbitrary
8) This seems reasonable, however it really isn't so much : first of all this would only accept the existence of something like 5 Dragon Kings simultaneously at max.
Not only would this hypothesis only allow the existence of ā 5 Dragon Kings simultaneously but it would allow at the same time the existence of several stronger Divine Dragons with nothing less than some Dragon Kings except for the title (for example a Silver Divine Dragon stronger and maybe even more popular and with a better mana affinity than the Bronze Dragon King).
Hence, the hypothesis number 4 and 6 appear to be the most reasonable ones.
If this were to be the case, then the power ranks of the kinds of Dragons from weakest to strongest would be this :
- Ordinary Dragon
- Bronze Dragon
- Silver Dragon
- Golden Dragon
- Bronze Sacred Dragon
- Silver Sacred Dragon
- Golden Sacred Dragon
Dragon Kings would have a similar power (maybe slightly stronger) than their Sacred counterpart. (Bronze Dragon King ā> Bronze Sacred Dragon)
